A Life Gathering is a group of friends, family, and co-workers who are working together to be more faithful followers of Jesus. Life Gatherings are an essential part of our church, as they provide a place where deeper fellowship and better support for one another can take place. Since the beginning, believers have not only worshipped in large settings, but gathered in homes and other spaces to share deeper fellowship with God and one another. Our faith and community grows stronger as we share life with others who support, encourage, and inspire us.
We have been created to live in community and yet many of us live in isolation. We live and work alongside others, but may still feel spiritually, socially, and relationally isolated. Living in community affords us the opportunity to more wholly experience God through close relationships as we play and pray together, as we encourage and help one another, and as we listen and live out God’s word together. Each week we will authentically listen for God's guidance as we read the Bible, and live it out through loving each other and our neighbors.
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ (in other words) ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
Matthew 22.37-39 (parenthesis added)
We believe God calls us to love everyone, without exception. Because we are God's children, we are to live as brothers and sisters to each other and to our community. The church is not a building, place, or program, but God's people.
Living in community with one another is essential to growing in the Gospel and becoming more like Christ. It is our desire here at BCUMC to see everyone involved in a Life Gathering during the rest of the week. A Life Gathering is not a mid-week program, but a group of friends, family, and co-workers who are working together to be more faithful followers of Jesus. We would love to see all of our Life Gatherings hanging out throughout the week, eating meals together, and serving their neighborhoods. It is not something you 'check off a list', but a way of doing life.
Groups come in all shapes and sizes — married couples, singles, men, women, kids, no kids, workplace, under 20, over 40 — the list goes on. No matter where you are in life, there’s a group for you.
