Hurricane Harvey has devastated communities across South Texas. In the days to come, our church will be sending funds to churches in the disaster area so they can get the supplies, tools, clothing, water and whatever else they need for families in their areas who have lost so much. We have already set aside $5,000, but if you would like to add in, we can do even more. 100% of your donation will go to help those in need. Please click here to be directed to our online giving. Click “make a contribution” and follow the prompts. Make a note of “Hurricane Relief”
Want to help those affected by the Hurricane? Below are 2 very practical ways you can help and give:
1. Park Manor Meals
BCUMC is providing meals for evacuated nurses and staff who are here from Rockport, TX with their elderly patients from an evacuated assisted living center. These nurses and staff have left their own homes, many of which are in the thick of the crisis, to come and care for their patients. We are providing meals for these amazing people who are staying in local areas and are looking at being here for 6-8 weeks!
To provide a meal for these 30-40 staff people, please go to the Sign up below. (Get a group of friends together to help)
2. Donate Backpacks/Duffel bags and $20 Gift Cards to give to evacuees. Please no clothing or other items which are being collected by many other agencies such as the Austin Disaster Relief Network. We will have drop off bins in the church office and the sanctuary foyer for these items.
BCUMC wants to give in a way that helps and is useful for evacuees whose needs are very wide. Many are wanting to be able to collect items and we want to focus on Backpacks/Dufflebags which can be used to store items as well as used for school for kids. And gift cards can be used to buy the clothing, toiletries, etc that an evacuee would need. Please make the gift cards in $20 amounts and to places such as Target, Walmart, Walgreens, HEB, etc.

3.Central Texas Food Bank is in desperate need of volunteers. All of the Houston Food Bank food inflow has been diverted to the Central Texas Food Bank. Central Texas Food Bank is working two shifts a day to process and preserve all of this food. They are also preparing meals for refuges from Hurricane Harvey here in Austin. This is an opportunity to directly help victims of Hurricane Harvey. While they will accept donations they need people to maintain the kitchen. Nice words for wash dishes. Families are invited to participate as a group.
The website to volunteer is: https://www.centraltexasfoodbank.org/get-involved/volunteer Central Texas Food Bank is the same organization that supplies our local Helping Hands.
4. Emergency Response Team if you’d like to sign up to serve on an Emergency Response Team in the days and weeks to come, contact Sue Bienkowski at firstname.lastname@example.org. YOU DO NOT NEED CERTIFICATIONS to work in La Grange!! There demand is very high for volunteers!!
Get certified as an Early Responder. Training is being offered 9/2 in San Antonio and 10/7 here in Austin. Go to riotexas.org/early-response-team-training to sign up.Chain saw certification is being offered 9/16 in Boerne Texas. Go to riotexas.org/chainsaw-training.
