What do you like about working with children? Helping young children learn is both a challenge and fun. They are learning how to grow into an education and take the necessary steps to enter elementary school. Each year of pre-school prepares them for their next steps. Watching them light up and be proud of themselves in what they have accomplished at this young age is a beautiful feeling.
How does your background support your work at Bee Loved? Aside from raising three wonderful and amazing adult children of my own, my background of 14 years teaching art to Pre-K & K students has been wonderful. Being a mom to my three kids, I was heavily involved in all levels of their education. Knowing first-hand the stresses that go along with obtaining the best education from pre-school forward has been a solid foundation for me. I understand fully how important it is to have a child ready to enter elementary school.
What is a fact that most people don’t know about you? I began to learn to play flute in 4th grade and continued all the way through high school. It led me to try several other instruments as well, including the piccolo, oboe, saxophone, clarinet and bassoon. The only one I still play a little bit on is the flute, however.

What do you like about working with children? I absolutely love working with emergent learners because they are so curious and enthusiastic when they make a new discovery in their educational pursuits. It is so rewarding bearing witness to both their academic and interpersonal growth as they achieve developmental milestones.
How does your background support your work at Bee Loved? I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in psychology, with a minor in sociology. I have always been drawn towards the field of behavioral sciences, as well as stewardship with youth. Following college, I spent several years working as both a case manager and service coordinator for a crisis counseling center for children. Through this work, I felt a calling to teach and decided to become a certified teacher. I received my teaching certification with an endorsement in special education and have been teaching for the past decade. I have taught life skills at the middle school level in Eanes ISD, been a high school teacher at Premier Charter Schools in South Austin and have been a lead preschool teacher for five years.

What do you like about teaching at Bee Loved? Bee Loved is where my children’s initial school experience began. Because of Bee Loved, we also found a church home! I absolutely could not pass up the opportunity to give back to this community in which my family has grown to love.

What is the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you? Charles Swindoll’s famous quote, “Life is 10% what happens to you, and 90% of how you react to it” is one of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever come across, but Master Oogway’s memorable quote from Kung Fu Panda, “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That’s why it is called the present!” might be even better!
What do you like about working with children and how does your background support your work at Bee Loved? I love working with children, and not only does my love for children, but also my vast experience in working with children support my work at Bee Loved Preschool. I have been around children all my life! I am second to the youngest in a family of 5 children. I started babysitting by the age of 12 and have always been a part of child centered activities for as long as I can remember whether it be helping at the local library or community center to raising both of my own children. I have taught hundreds of children throughout my life while volunteering in childcare classes for many churches for most of my adult life, volunteering in youth summer camps, serving as home room mom for both of my boys’ classes from kindergarten through 5th grade, mentoring other children at their schools, chaperoning for every field trip and volunteering for every opportunity imaginable throughout their years from preschool all the way through their last year in high school. I was an active member in volunteering for all their sports and other extracurricular activities for the past 15 years.
